2008-2009 ACM StatisticsThis numerical snapshot of ACM is meant to give a clear, unbiased account of what exactly our chapter does in a given semester. It includes all events from Fall 2008, and all other data is accurate as of Feb 24, 2009. It is likely that we won't update this every semester, because it's somewhat tedious to compile, but our activity levels have been comparable over the past few years, so it should still provide a good numerical sense of the scale of ACM. Outstanding Student Chapter Recruitment Award, 2007-2008 (awarded August '08) Paid members: 122 Dues are $15, membership is annual. Dues are $5 if student is a member of "The" ACM (virtually no students use this option, except senior officers, who are required to be national ACM members anyway)
Registered students: 148 Registered students have submitted membership information but may not have paid dues. They aren't members. Officers (formerly Operational Officers): Have, at one point, attained enough points (typically 50) to be promoted from Active Member and passed their officer interviews. Henceforth they have maintained 25 points per semester. Point cutoffs are maintained, but not strict. As of Spring '09, we also strictly require 3 "service points" per semester, which can be obtained through community service, tutoring, and occasionally other activities in the same vein.
Active Members (formerly Junior Officers): The title of Active Member is given on request, and comes with the same privileges as an Officer to encourage active, open membership. However, there are no requirements to become an Active Member. This is why we chose to use this title in lieu of "Junior Officer," to reflect what the position actually means, prevent confusion, and avoid trivializing our other officer positions.
Senior officers: 7 There are always 7 senior officers: President, Academics, Corporate, Finance, Human Resources, Internal, and Social. Elected by the membership annually. A majority of senior officers can remove and replace other senior officers, but this is rare, and almost always following a voluntary resignation.
Primary mailing list size: 519 addresses Weekly mail-outs go to this list. Unsubscription is deliberately made easy and obvious, so this number can be considered meaningful.
Fall 2008 Event History: All events are listed once.
